It’s Pole Day at Michigan International Speedway where qualifying is on the schedule for this afternoon for Sunday’s Sprint Cup Pure Michigan 400. The weekend at MIS also includes tomorrow’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series VFW 200 which you can hear live on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 beginning at Noon Saturday. Goodyear hosted a tire test at the speedway on July 30th and 28 teams took advantage of the extra practice time.
In June, all three series that raced at MIS posted track qualifying records.
The top four spots in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series are separated by 17 points. 5-time champion Jimmie Johnson, who has never won at the Brooklyn track, leads Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth by one point while Dale Earnhardt, Jr. trails by 17 points. Earnhardt’s last two Sprint Cup wins have come at MIS. He won the Quicken Loans 400 in June, breaking a 143-race winless streak. His previous win came in June of 2008, also at MIS in the Lifelock 400.
