The Tigers had a day of rest Thursday following a 3-and-3 road trip and they should feel pretty good about their chances tonight against the Orioles. That’s because Detroit has Justin Verlander on the mound and he has never lost to Baltimore in ten career starts against the O’s. Verlander is 7-and-0 against the Orioles, who are the only American League team he has not lost to. Even though Baltimore last night was beaten at home by the Red Sox 6-to-3, they’re still ten games over .500 at 64-and-54 while Detroit is 63-and-55. Tonight’s contest at Comerica Park starts a 9-game home stand for the Tigers, who head into the weekend 2-and-a-half games behind the Central Division leading White Sox, who belted a season-high tying five homers last night in a 7-to-2 win at Toronto. The Cubs, who were idle yesterday, open a 4-game series tonight at Cincinnati.
