Prince Fielder hit a pair of two-run home runs last night to help the Tigers beat Baltimore 5-to-3 in the opener of a 3-game series at Comerica Park. Fielder's first blast tied the game at three in the sixth inning, while his second came in the eighth inning. Miguel Cabrera added a solo shot, his 31st of the year in the bottom of the first to give Detroit an early 1-to-0 lead. Justin Verlander wasn't his usual sharp self and had a no-decision allowing three runs over six innings. Joaquin Benoit picked up the win. Jose Valverde locked up his 23rd save as the Tigers won their third straight. It also allowed Detroit to pull within a game-and-a-half of the first place White Sox, who lost 4-to-2 at Kansas City.
Rick Porcello gets the start tonight for the Tigers against the Orioles. The Cubs dropped the opener of their 4-game series at Cincinnati, losing 7-to-3 to the Reds last night.
