QUINCY (WTVB) - Branch County area residents have an opportunity late this afternoon to salute a special veterans group. The American Legion Legacy Run will be stopping over in Quincy and staying at motels in Coldwater. The Legacy is a motorcycle run that raises money for American Legion scholarships awarded to the children of active duty service personal who were killed after 9/11. The public is invited to welcome the riders to town by greeting them along US-12 east ofQuincy. They will be coming around 5:30 and then stopping for dinner at the Quincy Legion. The Patriot Guard will be posting flags along the entrance to town and the Quincy Fire Department will be waving a large American Flag from their aerial truck. The Nation Commander of the American Legion, Fang Wong will be accompanying the run.
A new hiring initiative for veterans and military families is being unveiled today by First Lady Michelle Obama. The announcement comes during her visit to Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville,Florida. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden launched "Joining Forces" last year as a way to recognize U.S.veterans and military families. Since then, 2,100 businesses have made efforts to hire and train veterans and military spouses.
