, MI (WKZO) -- Michigan Health Officials say the number of Fungal Meningitis patients continues to grow. There are now 197 who are reported to be infected, and 13 dead in Michigan. The largest majority, 116 of them have abscesses that have formed around the infections that are often too close to spinal cords to remove surgically.
46 year old Brenda Bonsale of Howell spent 15 days in the hospital with meningitis, now she has been diagnosed with an abscess that could burst at anytime triggering another bout of meningitis.
She has filed suit against the New England Compounding Center, which produced the contaminated steroid shots.
