UNDATED (WTVB) - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the flu season is off to its earlier start in nearly a decade and with the strains of flu being seen so far, it could be a bad year. That’s why the CDC is urging Americans six months and older to get a flu vaccine.
In a positive note, they say the current vaccination is a 90-percent match to the flu strains that are out there right now.
No flu update bulletins have been issued yet by the Michigan Department of Community Health or the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency. The CDC says Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas are all reporting higher numbers of flu-like cases.
Officials aren't sure whether or not it's the flu, but officials say the Athens School District in Calhoun County will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday due to excessive illness among students.
