Kalamazoo, MI (WTVB) - It may have been one of the shortest budget presentations on record, clocking in at just about half an hour, as Ken Collard presented his proposed 2013-Kalamazoo city budget plan to commissioners last evening.
It may have taken so little time because the city is really working a 5-year plan to greatly reduce their workforce and bring their costs into line with their revenue. It was more of an update than a presentation.
Collard says there won’t be any tax hikes but there will be a sizable reduction in manpower and that will mean it may take the city longer to get some jobs done. He says they will have about 9% less revenue to spend in 2013 with the general fund budget coming in at about 50- million and the total spending plan at 144-million dollars. Their next budget hearing is set for this coming Monday at 6pm at City Hall.
