COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports, the wrestling season opened last night with every county school in action. Coldwater started with a pair of losses at Tecumseh. The visiting Cardinals fell to the host Indians 62-to-18 and then they were defeated by
Dundee 75-to-4. The Coldwater points against Tecumseh came with a void win for Louden Tucker along with pin victories for Mohammed Aljabaly and Holden Chesher. The Cardinal’s lone victory against Dundee was earned by Aljabaly. Coldwater’s next meet is Saturday at the Brooklyn Columbia Central Invitational.
Also last night, Bronson had a strong start with two wins at Niles Brandywine. Bronson defeated the host Bobcats 49-to-12 and also beat Covert 64-to-3. Quincy opened its season with a Big Eight match and a 60-to-6 victory at Concord. Also in the Big Eight, Union City lost at home to Homer. And last night in junior varsity girl’s basketball, Bronson was a winner at home over White Pigeon 35-to-28. Makayla Sikorski had 9 points and 6 rebounds while Kelsey Robinson had 7 steals. The j-v Lady Vikings improved their record to 3-and-1.

In middle school sports yesterday, in boy’s basketball, Coldwater split its four games with Harper Creek. In the eighth grade action at Harper Creek, the visiting Cardinals won the “A” game and improved to 8-and-0 by beating the Beavers 44-to-23. Collin Warner had 9 points while Nick Aker led the way on the boards with 9 rebounds and added 3 blocks to along with his 5 points.
Harper Creek won the “B” game 32-to-20. Caleb Letendre had 6 points and Erik Roberts had 5 rebounds. In the seventh grade games in Coldwater, the Beavers won the “A” contest 27-to-24. Brady Beckhusen had 16 points for the Cardinals. Coldwater took the “B” game 30-to-22 with six points apiece for Austin Spray and Porter Skidmore.
Last night, Bronson dropped a pair of games at Centreville. The host Bulldogs won the eighth grade contest 35-to-21. Thad Herman had 8 points and 9 rebounds for Bronson while Justin Robinson added 12 rebounds and 6 points. And Centreville took the seventh grade game 31-to-21. Ethan Cossairt had 6 points for Bronson.
