BRONSON, MI (WTVB) _ In Branch County high school sports, it’s Monday night boy’s basketball on the radio with a cross county matchup as the Bronson Vikings host the Union City Chargers. Bronson is winless in two games after falling at Homer last Tuesday and at home Friday night to White Pigeon in overtime. The Chargers are 1-and-0 following their victory last Tuesday at Colon. Our live coverage from Bronson tonight on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 gets underway at 7:15. Over the weekend, there were several wrestling tournaments involving Branch County teams. Coldwater had an 0-and-5 record Saturday at the Brooklyn Columbia Central Invitational.
Union City went 1-and-4 at the Sturgis Invitational. The Chargers scored a 35-to-34 win over Plainwell while losing 42-to-25 to Quincy, 54-to-24 to Lakeland, Indiana, 42-to-24 to Constantine, and 42-to-30 to Sturgis. Top performers for Union City were Scott Alwood and Tayler Howard, both going 5-and-0 on the day. Jared Shepard and Ben Dart each had 4-and-1 records while Tyler Howard was 3-and-2.
And Bronson competed at the Grandville Challenge with the Vikings finishing seventh out of eight teams. Today on the Coach’s Corner, it’s Coldwater girl’s basketball coach Ken Smoker.
In middle school sports, on Saturday, in boy’s basketball, the Bronson seventh grade team was a winner at home over Vicksburg 38-to-12 with ten points for Ethan Cossairt while Lucas Disbro had a team-high 5 rebounds.
