UNDATED (WKZO) -- You have heard the warnings that sitting too close to the TV will expose you to radiation. Its not true but TV’s can present a real danger.
Deb Carpenter with South West Michigan’s Safe Kids Coalition says they can literally kill or maim children if not properly secured to the wall or placed on a piece of furniture that isn’t going to tip over.
An open drawer or cabinet door can give a child all the leverage they need to bring the whole thing down on top of them.
Nationally, a child is crushed every three weeks by a TV set.
Carpenter says she found over 700 emergency room incidents at Bronson ER alone of children being injured in furniture related accidents in the last decade.
They say making sure it won’t tip should be part of childproofing any home, especially with Christmas coming up, kids visiting and new TV’s arriving in homes.
