AUGUSTA, MI (WKZO) -- The Future of the Battle Creek Air National Guard base remains cloudy as a senate bill has paused plans by the Air Force to scrap an Air Cargo Transport plane, the C-27- they no longer want, but was supposed to be the replacement mission for the Warthog Squadron that was moved to Selfridge years ago now. That bill now needs to be reconciled with a house bill. The Air Force is reevaluating their fleet now that drone aircraft have changed how they fly most missions.
There has been a proposal to bring drone pilots to the Battle Creek Base, but they would not be bringing planes. They would be in Afghanistan or in Africa and only be operated from Battle Creek.
