OLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - It’s not the end of the world predicted for Friday by the Mayans, but it will be the end of the milder than normal weather around here. Winter weather will arrive seemingly right on schedule as the Winter Solstice also arrives tomorrow, the winter season will officially begin and Branch County and Southwest Michigan will see snow and it will stick. We expect to see 2 to 4 inches locally and 6 to 12 in the northern Lower Peninsula.
A winter weather warning goes into effect along the lakeshore while for Branch County an advisory takes effect at 7 tonight and runs through 7 Friday night. The punctuation mark for this storm system is the wind with occasional gusts of 50 mph in the forecast. It means the morning drive could be treacherous tomorrow. The first snowfall of the year is always very hard on commuters. As for the end of the world, well we will just have to wait and see.
