COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Anxiety and in some cases fear have scaused school districts around the state to close on this final day before Christmas break. In the Coldwater School District, officials say they decided to call off classes because of what they say is "recorded and anticipated lack of attendance". In addition to Coldwater, Quuincy, Pansophia Academy, Tekonsha, and the Branch Intermediate School District, including the Branch Area Careers Center, are closed today. Kalamazoo and Battle Creek area schools are also closed today.
School officials have been dealing with concerns from parents and students all week. A Coldwater High School, Principal Bill Milnes communicated with parents by telephone Thursday evening. That was in addition to private meetings and public address announcements to the entire student body, assuring them there was no threat made at Coldwater High.
