DETROIT (WKZO) -- Governor Rick Snyder signs several bills aimed at creating jobs and enhancing the quality of life for residents in Detroit.  Snyder signed a package of bills creating the Detroit Lighting Authority to speed the repair of tens of thousands street lights throughout the city and approved legislation to establish the Southeast Michigan Regional Transit Authority.

The governor also signed measures to allow nonprofit organizations such as Eastern Market to apply for grants and loans under the Community Revitalization Program.  The legislation will also permit the Detroit Downtown Development Authority to continue receiving funds to support the proposed 650-million dollar development project by Olympia Entertainment, which will include a new arena for the Red Wings as well as residential, office and retail space.
