COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Two prison inmates serving life sentences tried but failed to breakout very early on Christmas day from Lakeland Men’s Correctional Facility in Coldwater. They are now being charged with escape.
32-year-old Jamasa Darling is serving life for killing three teens in Allegan County in 1999. Michael Jackson, who is also 32, was serving life for armed robbery and home invasion.
They wore several layers of clothing to try and protect their bodies from the razor wire, but they set off motion detectors and were recaptured before they could get over the fence.
Because they are doing life, they can’t be given any additional time, but they will be reassigned to higher security facilities.
