LANSING (WKZO) -- Anne Readett with the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says police will be stepping up road patrols for the New Years' holiday.

Kalamazoo and Allegan are among 22 counties participating in the program, which is paid for by special federal grants. Last year, 14 people died in crashes over New Year's holiday weekend, five of which involved alcohol.
