Senator Carl Levin co-sponsors filibuster reform plan

WASHINGTON D.C. (WKZO) -- Michigan Senator Carl Levin and Arizona Republican John McCain have proposed an alternative bill to alter the filibuster rule in the Senate that they say have been clogging up the works and causing gridlock.

Their proposal would give the majority leader more authority to bypass motions and remove obstacles to approve minor presidential nominations.

The other proposal on the floor is also a bipartisan bill that would be a throwback, requiring senators who wanted to filibuster to actually take to the floor and continue speaking, delaying a vote until one side or the other gives in.

It’s the filibuster as seen in the movie, “Mr. Deeds Goes to Washington”. They call the Levin/McCain bill a weak alternative that would allow senators to still escape public accountability for their obstruction.
