COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - In Branch County high school sports last night, in girl’s basketball, in Big Eight Conference action, Quincy lost at home to undefeated Concord 56-to-26. Quincy held its own in the first half and trailed just 20-to-15 at the break. But then the Yellowjackets took over the rest of the way, holding the Lady Orioles to only 11 points in the second half.
Regen Stahl and Sarah Ward had six points apiece. Ward and Brook Adams each had six rebounds. Quincy slips to 1-and-12 overall and 1-and-9 in the conference. Concord, which is ranked third in the state in Class-C, improved to 15-and-0. ‘
Union City lost at Homer 63-to-23. It was 34-to-7 at halftime in favor of the host Trojans and Union City never threatened in the second half, dropping their record to 4-and-12 and 0-and-11 in league play. Katie Birch had 6 points for Union City. Homer also won the j-v contest 44-to-21. Gabby Smurr had 6 points for Union City.
Tekonsha was a winner at Bellevue 40-to-32. Mackenzie Norman led the way with 12 points while Britni Upston and Morgan Renfro had 10 points apiece. Tekonsha improved its record to 9-and-4.
In freshman girl’s hoops last night, Coldwater lost at home to Kalamazoo Hackett 40-to-39. Morgan Howard had 14 points and 8 rebounds while Shelby Bowers added 11 points and 9 rebounds. The Coldwater freshman record is now 5-and-10.
On tonight’s high school basketball schedule, you won’t find Coldwater listed with a rare Friday night off for both the boy’s and girl’s teams. They’ll return to action next Tuesday at Kalamazoo Loy Norrix.
The other three Branch County schools take to the courts tonight. It’s Athletic Hall of Fame night at Quincy, where the Orioles host Homer. In middle school sports, the Bronson Junior high wrestling team traveled to Mendon last night for their first SJV meet of the year. Bronson won 15 matches and recorded 14 pins, while losing only 7 matches. Recording wins for the Vikings were Jordan Withington, Dawson Littlefield, Bryce Withington, Tommy Littlefield, Gavin Alger, Jon Laser, Carlos Reyes, Mykal Kline, Nathan Caudill and Caleb Albbaron.
