Pavel Datsyuk and Jiri Hudler each scored in the shootout to give the Red Wings a 4-to-3 win over the Canucks last night in Vancouver.  Hudler, Daniel Cleary and Drew Miller also scored in regulation for Detroit. Brad Stuart had two assists and Jimmy Howard stopped 22 shots to help the Red Wings make it back-to-back wins after the All-Star break.

Detroit is now 6-and-0 in shootouts this season. The Red Wings lead the NHL and Western Conference with 71 points whileVancouveris four points back of the top spot. Tomorrow night, it’s Detroit at Edmonton and then the Red Wings finish up the 4-game road trip Monday at Phoenix.

Tonight in the ECHL at Wings Stadium, it’s Kalamazoo vs. the Toledo Walleye. And in college hockey, Western Michigan hosts Alaska tonight and tomorrow night at Lawson Ice Arena.

Former Red Wings great Gordie Howe has a mild case of dementia. According to his son Marty, the 83-year-old Howe has short-term memory loss and some difficulty speaking, but continues to recognize family and friends. Gordie Howe's wife, Colleen, died of dementia in 2009.
