COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - You’ve heard the stories, young people in America are out of shape with way too little time spent on physical activity and exercise. Well, in Coldwater, a pair of Jefferson Elementary students are setting an example on how to break that mold and then some.
Marshall Hoard & Bradey Moore recently received the school’s Mileage Club 100 Mile plaque, both completing 100 miles by jogging or walking every recess. Marshall started to jog because it is a good way to keep him healthy. His starting goal was 50 miles. He achieved it by jogging every day until he reached his goal. Marshall set a new goal for 100 miles because he wanted to earn a t-shirt, now his new goal is 150 miles. He said that sometimes it was hard to jog at recess because he chose not to play with his friends. He would remind himself of his goals and sees himself completing 225 miles by the end of the school year.
Bradey Moore started to run because he wanted to get faster for basketball. He kept jogging because it was fun and he wanted to talk to Marshall. Bradey’s first goal was 100 miles by half of the school year. Bradey jogged every day at recess and extra recess. Bradey’s current goal is 150 miles. He says jogging makes him feel good and it helped him focus in school. He sees himself jogging 200 miles by the end of the school year.
If both Marshall and Bradey continue setting goals and persevere to achieve goals, school officials say they will achieve great things with their lives!
