Michigan State Rallied For A Wild Triple Overtime Win Over Georgia In Yesterday’s Outback Bowl

by

Michigan State won a triple overtime come-from-behind thriller yesterday, beating Georgia 33-to-30 in the Outback Bowl in Tampa. Anthony White blocked a 47-yard field goal in the third overtime to give the Spartans the victory over the Bulldogs and their first bowl win since 2001.

Dan Conroy's 28-yard field goal provided the Spartans with the winning margin. After an interception in the first overtime, Georgia kicker Blair Walsh missed a 42-yard field goal wide right that would have won the game.

Le'Veon Bell's one-yard touchdown run with 14 seconds left in regulation tied the game for Michigan State, which finished 11-and-3. Georgia, which led 16-to-0 at halftime, ended up 10-and-4.

Michigan State fifth year senior quarterback Kirk Cousins tossed three interceptions, but was in control on the biggest drive of the day, marching the Spartans 85 yards in the final 1:38 of regulation to send the game into overtime.

The victory ended MSU’s 5-game bowl losing streak. The Spartans also prevented the Big Ten from being shutout in Monday’s bowl action.

Tonight, it’s Michigan vs. Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl at the Superdome in New Orleans.
