WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) – Officials from the US Agriculture Department have granted disaster status to Marathon and Lincoln Counties after major crop damage to ginseng farms last year.
Governor Walker's office announced today that the neighboring counties, Clark, Langlade, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Taylor, Waupaca, and Wood, all will be granted the designation of contiguous disaster counties.
Walker's office said today that the designation will help farmer recoup their losses through crop loans and grants available under disaster status. "Giving farmers access to capital to manage the losses experienced last year will help not only the agricultural economy, but also the local communities as well."
US Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says that famers will now have 8 months to claim those FSA and SURE loans. You can contact your local Farm Service Agency for more information.
