KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Deputies believe 25-year-old Christopher and 28-year-old William Wright are expected to be charged with the attempted murder of a deputy after they pulled out all the stops to escape from police Friday evening.
It began when a deputy riding with a reserve officer spotted a full sized pick-up running a red light. As the deputy approached the truck, someone inside pointed a handgun at him and fired two shots, grazing him in the arm. Both deputies returned fire as the truck fled.
The truck was found about a mile and a half away, abandoned. Deputies learned of a second vehicle the Wright’s might be using. It was spotted in Portage. A second chase ended when it crashed into a fence. The two males fled on foot, leaving a woman behind in the wreck to be arrested.
One of the suspects stole a vehicle from a garage on Mt Vernon, crashing out through the garage door as Police approached the home. He was chased all the way to Battle Creek, where stop sticks sent him into the cable median and he was arrested after a short foot chase. The other suspect was found back in Portage, hiding in the back of a parked vehicle.
The wounded deputy will make a full recovery.
