The NHL last night held a fantasy-style draft for this Sunday's All-Star Game in Ottawa. Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk was the first overall pick. It's the second year of the latest All-Star format, in which all the participants are placed into one pool and the captains select their respective squads in a draft of 38 players. Also playing with the squad that includes Datsyuk will be Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard.
Elsewhere in hockey, tonight in the ECHL, the Kalamazoo Wings host the Cincinnati Cyclones at Wings Stadium, while in college hockey, the Western Michigan Broncos play at home tonight against Bowling Green before the Falcons host the Broncos tomorrow night.
