Batavia Township, MI (WTVB) A triple shooting in Branch County has left a man dead by apparent suicide following a stand-off with police while a 24-year old woman and her 3-year old son are recovering from serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The incident started shortly before 5 p.m. Monday when 9-1-1 central dispatch received a call from a home on Bullock road west of Coldwater inBataviaTownship. First reports indicated the mother and child both suffered gunshot wounds to their legs. Troopers were able to evacuate them from the scene and the two were taken to the Community Health Center of Branch County and then air-flighted to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoof or further treatment and are believed to be in stable condition.
State Police and Sheriff’s Deputies then surrounded the home where the shootings occurred and where the suspect was believed to be barricaded. State Police said attempts by their Emergency Support Team to establish communication with the suspect failed and then around 10 o’clock last night, they entered the house and discovered the man deceased from the apparent self inflicted gunshot wound. No names have been released nor was information provided on the relationship between the man and the victims.
