COLDWATER (WTVB) There was a near drowning late yesterday afternoon in Messenger Lake off the beach site at Branch County Memorial Park just west of Coldwater. The victim, 20-year old Joseph Reinhackel of Coldwater, is reported in critical condition at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Sheriff’s Deputies said Reinhackel was under water for up to eight minutes before being located. After his friends realized they could no longer see him in the water, they started a search. A 18-years old man and a 19-year old woman went into the water and had other adult swimmers form a line and hold hands. They discovered Reinhackel in approximately eight feet of water. C-P-R was started after he was pulled to shore and he was revived at the scene, but wasn’t conscious. He was later flown from the Community Health Center of Branch County to Borgess. The incident was phoned in to 9-1-1 Central Dispatch at around 5:50 Thursday afternoon.
