COLDWATER (WTVB) The Coldwater Redbirds are on to the championship round today in the Sandy Koufax State Championship baseball tournament being hosted by Coldwater. After going 1-1 in their opening day Thursday, the Redbirds won in a pair of mercy rule games Friday, 17-3 over the Michigan Expos and 8-0 over Middleville. In the first game, Nick Shaw and Bryce Barringer were on the mound. Austin Krzeminski had 2 doubles and a triple. Shaw had 3 singles and a triple, and Brayton Rzepka had 2 doubles. In the second game, A.J. Hart pitched the complete game shutout. Brandon Lewis had a double.
As the number one seed from the American Pool, Coldwater will host the Michigan Young Guns, a team from the Flint area, at 10 am today at Lowe Field. The Mid Michigan Tigers will take on the Michigan Expos at Borden Field. The winners play in the championship game at Lowe Field, with the consolation game at Borden Field.
