COLDWATER (WTVB) It’s a record you don’t necessarily care to break. Coldwater officially topped out at 103 degrees Friday afternoon, breaking the old record of 99 degrees set during a heat wave back in 1911. The Excessive Heat Warning from the National Weather Service continues through this evening, when there is expected to break in the intense. Before then though, the Heat Index this afternoon is expected to reach between 108 and 112 degrees.
There are almost 23,000 homes across the state that have no chance if running their air conditioners today, as power remains out from Thursday’s storms. That includes about 700 customers in the Hillsdale County area and 2,400 in the Jackson area. Consumers Energy says it has more than 1,000 employees working the power restoration effort.
