Delmon Young clubbed a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning as the Tigers doubled up the Royals, 4-2. Quintin Berry tripled in a pair of runs in the third for the Tigers, who have won three in-a-row to move back to the .500 mark at 42-and-42. Drew Smyly struck out a career-high 10 over six innings of two-run ball as he improved his mark to 4-and-3. Jose Valverde tossed a perfect ninth for his 16th save. Brayan Pena and Jason Bourgeois plated a run each for Kansas City, which has dropped six-of-eight. Jonathan Sanchez allowed four runs on six hits over five-and-two-thirds as he slipped to 1-and-5.
Doug Fister will be on the mound as the Tigers host Kanasa City again this afternoon for a 4:07 pm start.
