Drew Smyly struck out a career-high 10 over six innings of two-run ball as he improved his mark to 4-and-3. Jose Valverde tossed a perfect ninth for his 16th save. Brayan Pena and Jason Bourgeois plated a run each for Kansas City, which has dropped six-of-eight. Jonathan Sanchez allowed four runs on six hits over five-and-two-thirds as he slipped to 1-and-5.
