COLDWATER (WTVB) Several real estate agreements were on the agenda last night for the Coldwater City Council with the land transactions pointing to an improved business environment for the city. The Council tentatively approved the sale of a 5.8 acre parcel of land on Hillside Drivenear the Aunt Millie’s bakery and Michigan Graphic Arts/Graphics 3. Purchasing the property from the city for $2,500 an acre is a New York based transportation firm, Page Trucking. City Manager Jeff Budd said they’ll be starting up with 4 local employees and look to expand to as many as 15. Budd said per the City Charter requirements, the sale offer sits on the table for 30 days. The Council also approved the jurisdictional transfer of a parcel of land on North Willowbrook Road across the street from the NCG Coldwater Cinemas from Coldwater Township to the city under the terms of Public Act 425. Ralph Schaefer's Coldwater Holdings LLC plans to build a modular home display area and sales office at the location. The site plan still has to come before the City Planning Commission. And the city now has a personal property tax abatement program. The Council last night gave its o-k to the program designed to spur new business and industrial development. Previously, the city only had the ability to grant tax abatements for Real Property, which includes land and buildings.
