HUDSONVILLE (WHTC) - A 57-year-old Wyoming man has admitted to burning several American flags in and around the Hudsonville area. William Mayhew Howerton pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of arson of personal property with a value of less than 2-hundred dollars at his arraignment in 58th District Court in Hudsonville. Lt. Mark Bennett of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says the suspect was arrested last night shortly after deputies were dispatched to a report of Old Glory on fire at Hudsonville City Hall. Investigatiors later determined Howerton had been involved in other flag burnings. He faces sentencing Aug. 14 in District Court. He could get up to 93 days in jail and be fined 5-hundred dollars.
