ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS (WTVB) In summer league baseball, the Coldwater Redbirds last night dropped their first round game in the Sandy Koufax North Central Regional, falling to the host Rockford, Illinois Young Guns 10-to-2. Brayton Rzepka started and took the loss for the Redbirds. He went three and a third innings, allowing 8 runs on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and 6 walks. Coldwater was held to 3 hits, a double by Brendan Spangler, a two run single by Brandon Lewis, and a single by Bryce Barringer.
The Redbirds return to action in the double elimination event with a game at 11 o’clock this morning. If they win that contest, Coldwater would play a third round game tonight at six o’clock. The Redbirds qualified for the regional with their third place finish in last week’s state tournament hosted by Coldwater.The North Central Regional is scheduled to wrap up either tomorrow or Saturday.
