KALAMAZOO (WTVB) The City of Kalamazoo might consider a voluntary sprinkling ban if there is a prolonged period of heat but right now there is plenty of water in the aquifers, its pumping it that may be an issue. The Kalamazoo’s Municipal Water System was pushed to the max last week during the height of the heat wave.
Utilities director Bruce Merchant says users have backed off since either because they have given up on their lawns or more likely because of less demand from water cooled commercial air conditioners. He says normally they will pump out 18-million gallons a day, in June that jumped to 31-million and during the 100-degree period it went to 45-million a day.
