COLDWATER (WTVB) On Thursday, July 19th officials from Branch Intermediate School District, as well as the area schools including Bronson, Quincy, and Coldwater will hold a community forum. The forum will begin at 6 p.m. at the Branch Area Careers Center answer questions about the upcoming Branch Intermediate School District Special Education Millage. The vote for the millage will take place on Tuesday, August 7th.
According to BISD officials, they want homeowners to know that with a property assessed at $100,000, passing the millage would be an approximate $31 per year increase in taxes for the next five years. Federal requirements for special education mandate programs and services that must be provided They say passage of the BISD Special Education Restoration Millage will also positively support the general education budgets of the local districts. If the election is successful, the funds generated will cover at least for a year the mandated expenses of the programs for students with Mild Cognitive Impairments that would normally be covered by the local school districts.
