QUINCY (WTVB) - The Branch County Sheriff’s Department says a Quincy man survived after jumping from a car going 55 mph down U.S. 12 in QuincyTownship. Deputies say the Jeep Cherokee was driven by the man’s wife and the incident was sparked by an argument the couple had over text messages received by the husband from his ex-girlfriend. According to deputies, 22-year old James Lemmen got his foot caught in a seatbelt as he opened his door and he fell under the car and was dragged on the pavement for about 30 feet before 22-year old Tonja Lemmen stopped the vehicle on the highway near Boone Road. A woman riding in the back seat of the Jeep was also able to provide deputies an account of what happened when James Lemmen exited the car around 3:15 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to the Community Health of Branch County for treatment and then transferred to Bronson hospital inKalamazoo, where he’s now listed in fair condition.
