The Angels used the long ball to crush the Tigers 13-to-0 last night at Comerica Park. Detroit pitching surrendered 5 home runs while the Tigers were held scoreless for the first time in 159 games. Jacob Turner was rocked for seven runs in two innings to suffer the loss for Detroit. The 21-year old Turner, who was called up yesterday from Triple-A Toledo to replace the injured Drew Smyly, allowed 3 home runs in his second start of the season and the fifth of his career. Angels starter Garrett Richards scattered three hits over seven frames to improve to 3-and-1. The defeat was just the second in 10 games for Detroit and dropped the Tigers to 3-and-a-half games behind the Central Division leading White Sox, who topped Boston 7- to-5 last night at Fenway Park.
Detroit sends Doug Fister to the mound tonight in game 3 of the 4 game series with the Angels. The Cubs last night dropped the opener of their 3 game series with the Marlins as Miami won 9-to-5 at Wrigley Field.
