COLDWATER (WTVB) - Proposed ballot language for the November election for a millage question to pay for the Branch County Sheriff’s Department road patrol and its enforcement functions was approved today by the Board of Commissioner’s Sheriff’s and Public Safety Committee. Sheriff Warren Cannon suggested the ballot wording yesterday to the Board’s P-3 committee, which asked for and received a legal opinion on the language. It calls for three-quarters of a mill for five years. The full Board of Commissioners next Tuesday will consider placing the levy on the ballot. County Treasurer Sandy Thatcher said if approved, it could be on the December tax rolls this year for the 2013 taxes.CountyAdministratorBud Norman said it takes approximately one and a quarter million dollars to operate the road patrol. The estimated revenue the County would collect if the millage passes and is levied in 2013 is 975-thousand dollars.
