COLDWATER (WTVB) - Sections of Branch County received their most significant rainfall in weeks overnight with some of the heavy downpours lasting up to 20 minutes. But it will take more than that to really make a dent into the drought conditions which have left Coldwater with just under an inch of rain since June First when the average total for June and July is 7-and-three quarter inches. West Michigan meteorologist Mark Sekelski says since so much rain fell last night in a short period of time, a lot of it just runs off quickly into streams instead of soaking into the ground. Meanwhile, some of the really hot weather is predicted to return by Monday with highs in the mid 90’s and there’s no precipitation in the extended forecast from this Saturday through next weekend.
