COLDWATER (WTVB) - In summer league baseball, the host Coldwater Redbirds last night lost their opening round Mickey Mantle North Central Regional game 4-to-1 to the Mid-Michigan Tigers in a rain-shortened, 5-inning contest at Lowe Field. Grant Maurer started and went all 5 innings for the Redbirds in a solid outing with four strikeouts. Maurer and Randall Linton both had singles for Coldwater. The Redbirds now face an elimination game today at noon at Lowe Field when they take on the Ottawa,Illinois Mustangs. If Coldwater wins, they will advance to a 7:30 game tonight, again at Lowe Field. Other contests are being played on Borden Field at Heritage Park. A total of seven second and third round games are on today’s schedule. The Coldwater tournament wraps up tomorrow, or possibly on Sunday with the North Central Regional winner advancing to the Mickey Mantle World Series inMcKinney,Texas.
