WASHINGTON (WKZO) -- The feds are offering help for Michigan fruit growers affected by inclement weather this spring, paving the way for federal assistance for small business owners, as well. Earlier this month U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow helped the area secure an emergency designation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. When the USDA issues a disaster declaration to help farmers, the U.S. Small Business Administration also makes loans available to eligible farm-related businesses such as food processors, farm supply companies and others that suffered financial losses as a direct result of the disaster.
