COLDWAER (WTVB) - A tubing accident over the weekend on the south end of Branch County’s Bartholomew Lake in which alcohol is believed to have been a factor has left a 26-year old man in stable condition at Bronson hospital in Kalamazoo. The 35-year old Warren, Michigan man who was driving the boat pulling the victim in the Saturday evening crash was arrested on an OUIL charge and released on 25-thousand dollars bond pending his arraignment a week from today in District Court. Sheriff’s deputies and Marine Patrol Officers were called to the scene and learned that the man from Berkley, Michigan on the tube struck a swimming raft in the water when the operator of the boat got too close to shore. The victim was then thrown from the tube and rescued from the water by nearby residents and brought to shore, where he was treated before emergency help arrived. The victim was flown by Air Care from the crash site off south Fremont Road to the hospital. The suspect boat driver fled the scene but was located by deputies at a nearby residence a few minutes after the accident, which remains under investigation.
