LANSING (WTVB) - The latest Kids Count report from the Annie E Casey Foundation has been released and it shows Michigan losing ground. The report examines the well being of children in Michigan relative to other states, and the Michigan League for Human Services' Jane Zehnder-Merrell tells us that the state came in 32nd overall. She says that the biggest stress on children in Michigan is the economy, and she urges lawmakers not to cut programs that keep those kids feeling secure. However, Zehnder Merrell notes that Michigan children, on the whole, are healthier than those in most other states. That's because she says the state does a good job of making sure that kids have health coverage, even when their parents lose their jobs.
