COLDWATER (WTVB) - Branch County last month joined all 17 of Michigan's major job markets in seeing an increase in their unadjusted unemployment rates for June. The local rate was 8-and-a-half percent, up from an even eight percent in May. State officials said workforce and employment levels in most Michigan regions expanded in June as summer and seasonal hiring continued. With the influx of job seekers, unemployment rates jumped moderately over the month. However, the rates remained well below 2011 levels throughout the state. A year ago last month the Branch County rate was 10-and-a-half percent. The bottom line…156 more people in the county were out of work. Things got better in 13 counties, mostly in northern tourism-related areas ofMichigan.
