Kevin Durant posted a game-high 22 points to lift the United States men's basketball team to a 98-to-71 win over France in Team U-S-A’s opening contest. The U.S. swim team picked up a total of four medals on Sunday. Allison Schmitt of Canton, Michigan won silver in the Women's 400-Meter Freestyle. Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte each earned a silver medal as part of America's second place finish in the Men's 400-Meter Freestyle Relay. Dana Vollmer set a world record in the Women's 100-Meter Butterfly. And Brendan Hansen received a bronze medal in the Men's 100-Meter Breaststroke. The U.S. women's gymnastics team grabbed the overall lead through three subdivisions of Sunday's qualifications, although one of the favorites for gold in the all around category, Jordyn Wieber of DeWitt, Michigan, failed to qualify for the finals. China holds the overall medal lead at the 2012 London Olympics with 12 medals, six of which are gold. The U.S. is in second with 11 medals followed by Italy with seven.
