LANSING (WKZO) -- The Justice Department is likely to file a lawsuit soon against city and township clerks in 70 Michigan communities. Secretary of State Ruth Johnson says those clerks missed the deadline to have absentee ballots shipped to overseas and military voters for the August 7th primary election. In addition to the 70 who missed the deadline of shipping those out at least 45 days before the election, Johnson says another 215 didn't respond to repeated requests from her office for a status update on getting those ballots out.
