COLDWATER (WTVB) - Consumers Energy says 14-hundred of its customers in Branch County lost power when gusty thunderstorm winds blew through the area early today. Local fire departments around the county were kept busy checking out reports of arching wires with trees and limbs falling on power lines. The storms moved in from the north around 4 a.m. today. Some Coldwater Board of Public Utility customers also lost electric service for awhile as well. The highest wind gust recorded at the Branch County Memorial Airport was 43 mph, although 50 mph plus wind readings were reported in Southwest Michigan. No injuries have been reported but there has been some property damage. The most outages were seen in Allegan County with more than eleven thousand homes and business there knocked off line.
