The Michigan High School Athletic Association Boys Golf Districts wrapped up Friday with Coldwater bowing out at the Division 2 District at the Marshall Country Club. The Cardinals finished 7th out of 12 teams with a team score of 350, 11 strokes behind Chelsea for the sixth and final Regional qualifying spot. Connor Dwyer did qualify for next week’s Regional at Eldorado Golf Course in Mason; his round of 78 placed him 5th individually and earned him a spot on the All-District Team. Rounding out Coldwater’s team scoring, Scout Case fired a 90, Trae McGuire and Kevin Fishero each had 91, and Nick Waterbury shot a 100. Harper Creek won the district with a team score of 321, while the host Redhawks were 3rd with a 325.
Thursday at the Division 3 District hosted by Centreville at Island Hills, Bronson finished 13th out of 13 teams with a team score of 429. For the Vikings, Robert O’Rourke had the team’s low score with a 100, while Jonah Houtz shot 103, Patrick Brabon had a 108, Ryan O’Rourke fired a 118, and Austin Pierson had a 120.
Today’s busy high school sports schedule features the MHSAA Track & Field Finals, along with Districts in baseball and softball. A total of 15 individual athletes and 6 relay teams from Branch County will be in the Grand Rapids area competing in the Lower Peninsula Track & Field Finals; two Coldwater athletes will be at the Division 2 meet at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids, while the representatives from Bronson, Quincy, and Union City will run at the Division 3 meet at Comstock Park.
Meanwhile, on the diamond, Coldwater is competing in the Division 2 Baseball and Softball Districts at Sturgis, while Quincy is hosting Division 3 Baseball and Softball Districts. Over at Sturgis, the Cardinals take on the host Trojans in both baseball and softball, with the winners of those games taking on either Edwardsburg or Vicksburg for the district crown. At Quincy, the Orioles take on Union City, while Bronson plays against Constantine, with the winners squaring off for the district title.
