HOLLAND (WHTC) - The SS Keewatin is on its way to its new Canadian home. After spending the weekend tied to a barge at Saguatuck Dunes State Park, the ship headed out onto Lake Michigan Monday on its way to its new home in Port McNicoll, Ontario, where it is slated to arrive on June 23, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of its initial arrival as a passenger ship. By early afternoon, the Keewatin had passed Holland Harborand was headed north on the big lake. R.J Peterson purchased the Keewatin in 1967 and docked it on Kalamazoo Lake in Douglasuntil selling the vessel last fall. The ship, which was moved out of its moorings last Thursday, will be refurbished and become a permanent museum in Georgian Bay.
