OTTAWA COUNTY, MI (WKZO) -- Pathologists say a young student who died during a field day in Norton Shores choked on a rock. They don’t know how or why the rock got into his windpipe, but an autopsy revealed that was what killed kindergartner Nikolas Wypa.
The funeral will be Saturday morning for the six-year-old boy who collapsed on the playground at Churchill Elementary School and later died. Principal Mark Platt says some students were afraid to go back out on the playground for recess. Visitation for Wypa will be today at Sytsema Funeral Home's Lee Chapel with the funeral at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church.
