COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - It’s a free fishing weekend in Michigan, and judging from the forecast, its going to be a good weekend to drop a hook near a cool lake or stream and wait for dinner to wander by.
In Branch County, that means it’s time for the Take-a-Kid fishing event which is happening from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Rotary Park along U.S. 12 on the west side of Coldwater.
State Senator John Proos says it’s the one weekend of the year you don’t need a license to fish in Michigan, adding it’s not just for kids, adults can also grab a pole and take advantage of the opportunity. It was and remains an effort to introduce more people to the sport, which like hunting, has been trying to recruit more youngsters.
